Abstract

(1) Background: In the current study, we aimed to assess the effect of suppression of survivin (BIRC5) on the viability of oral squamous cell carcinoma cell line and to explore the changes in the expression of both p53 and bcl2 genes when surviving was blocked; (2) Methods: The oral squamous cell carcinoma cell line (HNO97) cells were transfected with si- BIRC5 then the cell viability was evaluated using the MTT assay. In addition, we investigated the effect of silencing BIRC5 as an apoptotic inhibitor protein on two apoptosis-regulating genes TP53 and BCL2. (3) Results: There was a marked decrease in cell viability when cell line was transfected with si- BIRC5, in addition to that, unlike Bcl2 which showed a marked decrease, the expression of p53 was increased
